How to properly use a semi-colon...

I always get really confused with how to properly use a comma or a semi colon. So here are so helpful hints..

Most semicolon errors involve the inappropriate use of a comma when, in fact, the
semicolon is needed; this is referred to as a “comma splice.”

Examples:

The exam begins in two hours please be on time.
The exam begins in two hours; please be on time. (independent = semicolon)
