Being an American....
In reading the introduction of Rereading America I realized how fortunate I am to be an American. Honestly, I've never really thought of how lucky I am. I know that it is a privelage to be an American, but that doesn't make me any more important than others. I like this book, and I feel it has a lot to offer to the reader. I'm excited to read and gain more knowledge of America and the cultural myths.

Yeah, i think we are lucky to live her in the United States. I totally agree with you that, even though it may be a privilege for us to be citizens, it doesn't make us any better than anyone else. A major part of foreign animosity towards the U.S. stems from Nationalism. Although I am lucky to live here, other countries have good qualities- some that rival or surpass our own. Good post eh! CHEERS.
ReplyDeleteWe will look at some essays addressing the idea of US nationalims during the semester that you will probably find interesting. As a side note, I love Alice Sebold's 'The Lovely Bones.' It is a beautiful and heart-breaking book.
