Changing American Families....

When I read the disclaimer saying that it would be wise to read this passage with a bowl of M&M's in the middle of the afternoon, I was a little leery of what was ahead. After a minute of reading I became very fond of the passage and I just kept reading. I found Changing American Families by Judy Aulette very interesting. The writing was very boring, but there were a lot of interesting facts about social status, race ethnicity, and many many more.

The Moynihan reports were released in the 1960's. During that time Americans were experiencing the Civil Rights Movement. For the Moynihan document to be publicized was a very big scare and step for all Americans. During my reading I was a little confused where Daniel Patrick Moyihan, the author, got his information. I felt that Stack had a lot more evidence and force behind her findings because she was involved and she immersed herself in the work. It seems that Moynihan got his information from his personal opinion. He never got into the situations that he was analyzing, but he stood on the side lines and observed from there. There was much discrimination around this time in history and the people were just finding a way to point the finger somewhere else. I think that Moynihan had some good points, but for the most part his evidence and assumption were very wishy-washy. Stack had more evidence and facts with her experiences.
